A Phone Company You Can Start for Free
If you have professional sales experience and seriously want to work for yourself, telecommunications sales could be your best chance.

By: John Shepler

If you have ever been good at selling anything, then you might have the basic skills and personality to be an independent telecommunications agent. Much more than specific background, what you need to be successful with your own telecom marketing company is the personality to approach people with your services and the drive to stick with it day in and day out as the business grows.

Why Telecom?
The problem with many high potential businesses is that they require a considerable up front investment before you can even see if your efforts will pay off.  Just about any store or franchise falls into that category.  But what if you don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars at your disposal, or just don't want to take a huge risk to find out if you are really suited to running your own business?

The beauty of telecommunication sales is that YOU don't need to make the financial investment.  The big carriers have already spent the money to build fiber optic networks, switching equipment and billing systems.  Since deregulation in the mid 1990's, the market is also open to competition from many new companies looking for a piece of the action.  You know how hot cellular phones are these days, right?  You could be selling some of the most popular cell phones and service plans without renting a storefront or even a kiosk at the mall.

The beauty of telecommunications is that every consumer and business needs it.  People make phone calls every day. Most use the Internet every day.  Businesses often need high speed digital lines to connect all their stores and branch offices with central headquarters.  The needs never run out.  It's just a question WHO is going to get paid for providing the services.

A Low Risk Approach with Great Potential
The easiest, lowest risk way to generate an independent income from the telecommunications industry is as an independent sales agent, also called a "telecommunications consultant." You make your money from commissions on the products and services you sell. The more you sell, the more you make.  Even better, most telecom services are ongoing in nature so that you earn residual commissions month after month from one sale.  As long as your customer stays with the service you've sold, you make money... perhaps even years down the road.

How is this low risk?  Compared to businesses that charge a franchise fee or require renting a store or office complex, it has a very low financial risk.  In fact, the company we are recommending does not charge a sign-up fee or any renewal fees.  You can join the organization as an independent agent in a matter of minutes though an online sign-up form.  While you are still sitting at your computer, the automated process will build you a set of customized sales web pages which you can brand with your own logo if you wish.  In addition to taking orders, you'll have your own "back office" site where you can get training and marketing materials and keep track of your commissions.

The real "risk" involved is whether or not your efforts will pay off.  Even though others are earning excellent part-time and full time incomes in telecommunications, no one can say for sure ahead of time if YOU will enjoy the same success.  That's why I'm suggesting that this opportunity is best if you have a telecom sales background already or if you are good at selling other products and services.  The specifics of phone services can be learned rather quickly by most people.  What's much harder to develop is the personal drive to succeed without a boss telling you every move to make, or the personality traits it takes to call on prospective customers and show them how much better off they'd be with your services than someone else's.  It's probably best if you start off on a part-time sideline business basis and keep your "day" job. You can always go full time later.
